The pace bowler has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.
Australia's chair of selectors George Bailey has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in the forthcoming historic rivalry.
Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.
Earlier indications from the squad suggested no official announcement had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on November 21 in Perth.
Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about his chances of taking part.
"We're aware that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations around that, not just the physical problem, but further aspects," the selector added.
"It's positive. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. With luck from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll adjust."
Injury History
Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India last month after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.
Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss several home seasons in a short span.
He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
He mentioned that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the opener.
Contingency Plans
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.
He labeled it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to be ready to bowl."
"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for a short period, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
